Left-handed veteran Rich Hill is set to make his debut for the San Diego Padres this Sunday against one of his old teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres landed Hill and first baseman Ji Man Choi from the Pittsburgh Pirates at Tuesday's trade deadline. The 43-year-old southpaw is mostly an innings-eater at this point in his career, and he hasn't been very effective in 22 starts for the Bucs in 2023, going 7-10 with a 4.76 ERA (4.45 FIP) and 1.48 WHIP, but he has struck out 104 hitters in 119 innings pitched. Hill is a fine matchup-based streamer in much deeper fantasy leagues and he'll have a much better offense backing him in San Diego, but we'd recommend fading him in his Friars debut on Sunday against the first-place Dodgers.

Meanwhile, Choi will get an opportunity for a fresh start in San Diego after slashing .205/.224/.507 with a poor wRC+ in Pittsburgh. He owns a 2.6% walk rate and 35.5 strikeout rate, both of which are career-worsts. He can be avoided in fantasy baseball.

New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (calf) has been taking ground balls and batting practice recently and is hoping to return before the end of the 2023 season. The calf has long been bothersome for the 2015 AL MVP winner as Donaldson has made multiple trips to the injured list with the issue. The 37-year-old has been a lightning rod for an underperforming Yankees offense as he's struggled to a .142 batting average alongside a .659 OPS across 34 games. He does, however, have 10 home runs to his credit in just 120 trips to the plate but his 74 wRC+ remains 26% below the league average.

Atlanta Braves reliever Jesse Chavez (shin) was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Sunday. The 39-year-old still has a "slight limp, according to skipper Brian Snitker, so the update isn't surprising. Chavez, who has a 1.55 ERA with 36 strikeouts, 13 holds, and two saves in 2022, is still "weeks away" from returning, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect to see him anytime soon. In a corresponding move, Atlanta will bring right-hander Daysbel Hernandez to the big club.

According to Braves manager Brian Snitker, reliever Jesse Chavez (shin) is still "walking with a slight limp." There was a report that the 39-year-old had been doing some "light jogging." Yet, he's still "weeks away" from returning, per Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Chavez owns a 1.55 ERA with 36 strikeouts, 13 holds, and two saves this season, so Atlanta would love to see him back on the bump as soon as possible. However, his statistical contributions won't mean much to most fantasy managers.

New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (calf) was transferred Thursday from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. The 37-year-old was diagnosed with a high-grade right calf strain. He is slashing .142/.225/.434 with 10 home runs, 15 RBI, and 13 games over 34 games in 2023. Donaldson is eligible to return in September but could miss the remainder of the season. Oswald Peraza should see an uptick in at-bats and see the bulk of his playing time at third base. Since being recalled on July 16, Peraza is hitting .200 (2-for-10) with an RBI and two stolen bases over three games. The 23-year-old is worth adding in deep-league formats due to his elite speed.

Fantasy managers shouldn't be holding him in mixed leagues at this point, and there's a chance that we won't see Donaldson again this year.

The 37-year-old does have 10 home runs in only 106 at-bats in 2023, but he's had a tough go of it offensively otherwise. In 33 games played, the former MVP is hitting just .142/.225/.434 with a double, 15 RBI and 13 runs scored in 120 plate appearances. DJ LeMahieu should continue to see most of the starts at the hot corner for the Yankees.

Without question, Atlanta would like to see him return as soon as possible, considering he's accrued a 1.55 ERA with 36 strikeouts, 13 holds, and two saves in 31 appearances this season. That said, if all goes well, Chavez is looking to be back on the bump in two weeks, although that's the most optimistic scenario.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs that third baseman Josh Donaldson (calf) has been "a little beat up" since the team's previous road trip, which is why he was serving as the designated hitter the last few days. Boone also said it's part of some "normal wear and tear" in Donaldson's lower body. Donaldson grabbed at his right calf after a swing in Sunday's game and went to the clubhouse to be checked out after, but he remained in the game. The 37-year-old should be considered day-to-day heading into the second half of the season this weekend. Donaldson does have 10 home runs in 31 games played in 2023, but he's gone just 15-for-99 (.152) with 31 strikeouts in 112 plate appearances.

The Los Angeles Angels recalled outfielder Jo Adell from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday and placed infielder Eduardo Escobar on the restricted list in a corresponding move. Adell, a former top prospect for the Angels, has played in just one game for the team this year and has struggled in 561 career plate appearances at the big-league level with a .215/.261/.362 slash line, 16 home runs, 61 RBI and six stolen bases. It remains to be seen how long he'll stick around, but he was hitting a solid .277 (70-for-253) with 21 home runs, 14 doubles, 53 RBI, seven stolen bases and 52 runs scored in 66 games for Salt Lake before his latest call-up. Escobar, who was acquired in a trade with the Mets last week, will miss some time while he takes his citizenship test.

New York Mets middle infielder Ronny Mauricio is not in line for a promotion at this time even in wake of Friday's Eduardo Escobar trade. The Mets have no plans to elevate the 22-year-old unless a roster spot clears for him to play on a daily basis. This doesn't come as a huge surprise, considering Escobar saw very scant playing time for New York anyway this year. Mauricio is currently blocked at shortstop by Francisco Lindor and at second base by Jeff McNeil. However, Mauricio is handling some left field action at Triple-A Syracuse of late as the club tries to find ways to integrate his bat into their lineup. Fantasy managers will have to continue patiently waiting on the No. 6 Mets prospect's big-league debut in Queens, which should still arrive at some point later in 2023.

The Los Angeles Angels acquired infielder Eduardo Escobar and cash considerations from the New York Mets on Friday in exchange for minor-league right-handers Landon Marceaux and Coleman Crow. Escobar will help the Angels get by the rest of the season after it was announced this week that Gio Urshela will miss the rest of the year with a fractured pelvis. Perhaps a change of scenery will help Escobar, but fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting much. The 34-year-old Venezuelan switch-hitter slashed .236/.286/.409 with four home runs, three doubles, two triples, 16 RBI and 15 runs scored in 120 plate appearances and 40 games for the Mets this year. Escobar might not play every day, but he should be in LA's lineup often against right-handed pitching going forward.

While the 39-year-old isn't much of a fantasy asset and certainly isn't overpower by today's pitching standards, he's been a key cog in Atlanta's bullpen this year, pitching to a tidy 1.55 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, one save and 36 strikeouts in 29 relief innings pitched.

X-rays came back negative on Atlanta Braves right-hander Jesse Chavez (shin) on Wednesday after he was hit by a comebacker on his left shin bone in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers. Chavez could still miss some time, but it looks like he avoided a serious injury. The 39-year-old right-hander didn't officially record an out and allowed one hit in his outing on Wednesday before departing the contest. He has just one save in 29 relief appearances for Atlanta so far this year, but he's also sporting a strong 1.55 ERA (2.48 FIP), 1.00 WHIP and 36 strikeouts in 29 innings pitched. Chavez isn't much to look at for fantasy purposes, but he's been a key bullpen piece for the Braves so far this year.

The New York Yankees activated third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Thursday. The team also reinstated right-hander Tommy Kahnle (biceps) from the 60-day injured list and moved left-hander Carlos Rodon to the 60-day IL. Donaldson had a couple setbacks with his right hamstring injury during his rehab after initially getting injured in early April after just five games played. In those five games, he had just two hits in 16 at-bats with a solo home run and six strikeouts in 17 plate appearances. The 37-year-old veteran is expected to return to the starting role at the hot corner in the Bronx, but he'll have to hit much better moving forward if he wants to play consistently and be valuable in fantasy leagues.

New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) and third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) will both fly to Los Angeles to join the team on Friday for the start of their three-game series against the Dodgers. Both players, as well as reliever Tommy Kahnle (biceps) are expected to be activated from the injured list. Stanton has been out almost seven weeks but will return as the DH after playing in just one minor-league rehab games, so fantasy managers may want to expect some rust. Eventually, the 33-year-old slugger will be mixed back into the outfield. When healthy, Stanton remains an elite source of power. The 37-year-old Donaldson has been out since early April and was looking washed up at the plate when he hit the IL, but he's expected to see regular playing time at the hot corner.

The veteran has been on the injured list since the beginning of April with a right hamstring strain, but he's hoping to rejoin the Yankees this weekend at the Dodgers. Donaldson saw a decline in his fantasy production last season, slashing .222/.308/.374with 15 home runs and 62 RBI in 132 games. As such, fantasy managers should not jump to add him immediately when he does return.
